A digital certificate is a form of identification that:
Provides an electronic means of proving someone's identity
Encrypts information so that only the intended recipient can read it
Verifies someone actually sent a transmission
Was chosen by the State of Washington for secure electronic transactions
Why do I need one?

A digital certificate provides proof of identity for electronic transactions, and allows you to securely conduct business with the State of Washington. You can use digital certificates to:
Identify yourself in electronic transactions
Keep messages confidential
Electronically sign forms and documents
How do I get one?

To obtain a digital certificate, click on "Apply Now" and you'll be guided through the following steps:
Check that your computer and browser meet the minimum requirements
Determine which digital certificate you need
Fill out an online application form and pay for your digital certificate
Wait for approval (usually 3 business days)
Receive a IdenTrust Welcome Kit in the mail
Return and retrieve your digital certificate
